Bird Silo is a minimalist bird board designed by Studio Tolvanen for the Tydat brand, the material of which is durable and environmentally friendly recycled polypropylene. "We wanted to design a functional sculpture. The Bird Silo also had to be an automatic feeder, whose only impact on nature would be feeding the birds," say the designers. Lintulauta's operating idea – and name – is borrowed from grain silos: food is added to the bird's platform from above, but it is filled from the bottom up.
For years, Mika and Julie Tolvasen, who designed the Bird Silo bird board, have been in the habit of watching birds from the window while eating breakfast and at the same time researching the eating habits of winged birds with the help of bird board prototypes. The Bird Silo is designed to be especially suitable for bird species that feed in an upright position. That is why it is recommended to fill it with, for example, shelled sunflower seeds or peanuts, which many titmice, nuthatches, finches and woodpeckers like to munch on.
